Default Tranny will not engage into any gears.

Hello all,

I registered here today hoping I can get some good advice regarding my transmission issue. I was lurking here before and found some good threads which help me fix my AC issue. I have search a bit and I didn't find anything that had the same symptoms as my tranny. Here is the background and the problem.

I ran my suburban's 4wd lo at 30mph and it overheated the transmission. Some transmission fluid started spilling out. I was able to get it back to my driveway and I drove on 2 hi for a couple of days with no problem. Today, the gear will not engage. There is a sound like it's engaged but when I give it some gas, the car doesn't move. It feels like the ebrake is on. Any ideas?

Thanks
Rommel

After a closer look, I noticed a hole in the torque converter cover. What does this mean and will this need a comple transmision rebuilt?

gpro, what is the model year and mileage of your vehicle? I would like to see if I can assist you.

Thanks for all the help so far. I just picked up the transmission filter kit and 7 quarts of transmission fluid. My vehicle is a 97 Suburban with 160000 miles on it. How can I tell my transfer case is on Nuetral if I have an electronic push button transmission? I can see a light on 2Hi and I can change it to 4Hi and the lights stays lit. Is there a way to tell from looking under the truck if it's on Nuetral?

Thanks again for all the help.
