Default Transmission advice

How's it goin, I've got a 73 chevy with an 83 body and an edelbrock 383 stroker with a turbo 400 transmission. The transmission is bad and needs to be replaced, so here is my question, I'm thinking of converting the car from a 3-speed automatic to a 5or6-speed manual, is it worth it? I've got the money for it, OR do you recommend a tranny for me to put in there, thanks!

I personally wouldn't do it, it sounds like you have an interesting project and I would guess you use it for a little off roading? The standard will hold you back a little and compound problems that you could run into. I'm speaking from experience, I had an 85 CJ that I put a 400 small block into and maintained the standard transmission for the first month or two, shortly after that I switched to a turbo 350 and was way happier. Better throttle response more off road control and made it unbeatable on the street. Just my 2 cents though.
Good Luck
