Default Transmission Temp Warning and Engine Light on

Hello to all,

Check engine light is on, warning transmission temp comes across readout and trans temp escalates slowly to 140 degrees…turn engine off at this point. Checked tran fluid, red, no smell, in between hash marks. Engine temp is normal…..its the normal fluid that has me stumped…can someone explain the mechanics behind the cooling for the transmission in their answer? I have speed bumps (three) I have to take (faster than perhaps I should) so thinking some part of the cooling mechanism(s) has/have physically detached?

Thanks

JW

Welcome to the forum...

What year and engine?

140 is normal temp range for the tranny... I suspect you have a loose or poor electrical connection... start at the battery, check the ground cable for corrosion. Check the cable at the alternator....
all connections need to be clean and solid

Tahoe 2008, LTZ 5.3L/320Hp, 4WD

Sorry I had assumed the year and make came across automatically as I entered it when registering.

As an update, the transmission temp warning is not coming on per se but engine light is still on. Another piece to this is the fact that I hauled a trailer with some furniture (400lbs max) for several hundred miles at speeds of 75-80 mph. When I looked down the following day, I noticed that the control **** of the changing 2F 2R 4WD or Auto was in 2F..and I didn't have the tow button on at the end of the shifter. Likely non relevant but thought I'd include them anyway..

Thanks

Jeff
