Default wacky oil pressure gauge

I got a 98 tahoe and recently started haveing some weird problems with the oil pressure gauge when its warmed up the gauge is at 40+ when cruzing and about 20 or so at idle. Somtimes when i go to take off from a stop light it will drop to zero and the check gauges light will come on but only for a split second then it will shoot back up to normal. There is no noises coming from the motor and it ia full of oil. I have used the same brand oil filter and oil for 7 years with no problems. Just wondering if anyone has had similar problems thanks

How many miles? The dropping to zero sounds like connection. The lower at idle might be true.

Its got about 130 on it and ive owned it since about 50k and it has always operated in the range it does now. The only weird thing it does is drop off for a spit second when you go to take off then it jumps right back up. U could let it idle all day long and it wont get any lower than normal. It would make more sense if it did it when you came to a stop as the oil pressure naturally is gonna come down when ur not on the gas but like i said when u leave a stop light and the oil pressure starts to rise with acceleration it drops off fora sec

Dropping to 20 at idle probably due to increased clearances from wear. Dropping to zero probably a connection like kevinkpk said. The engine moves on take off due to torque.
