I bought a 2003 suburban a few months ago. I just noticed this thing on the overhead console, what could it be for?

I think he means the little black device attached to the OHC, it would be my guess its a blue tooth device or maybe a sunglasses holder...

is it removable or have wires?

That's how they always know where I am! Could be, I'm driving the Bronco now though.
