Default what is the NORMAL operating temp

for 02 burb, 5.3l what should the temp be say the ambient(outside) air is 73* what should my engine temp be roughly? say if you point a laser thermometer at the block or using a scan gauge ?

i dont know the answer to that but if it's helpful, my 2001 6.0 runs just under the 210 degree mark on the inside guage.

Thanks that doe help, my gauge inside shows the same. I put my ultra gauge on and it shows anywhere from 195-203* so good enough for me.


Now I have noticed that I can squeeze the upper radiator hose when it is at operating temp, is yours like this also?


I always had fords and seemed like the radiator hose was always hard , under a lot of pressure.

I concur. 2004 -6.0 -same temp. The only movement is when I lose a

waterpump.

Sorry, 1 ford was all I could handle. It nearly bankrupted me.

IF your cooling system even is in fair shape, the normal operating temps will be below boiling, even with the cap off the radiator. (not that you'd want to run it that way).
Where the pressure occurs under normal conditions, is when you've been driving a while, stop rather suddenly or shut the engine down. That's when the temp spikes and fluid integrity is held in check by the pressure.
