My Chevy dealership has the quick lube as part of their service center so if you only need an oil job you don't have to go through the regular service process.

Why not take it to the dealer? Easy, because my dealer is a) slow and b) expensive. The 29 minute quick lube? Yeah, right. It's 29 mintues from the time they pull it in the garage! So if they're backed up, you could end up being there for an hour and a half...for an oil change. No thanks. I get $15 and $20 "gift cards" from GM every once in a while, so when I have one of those I'll go to the dealer and use it towards an oil change. But otherwise, no.

I take mine to one of several quick lube places. The one I had been using for the past several years shot up in price to $42 for the full service - that includes window washing, interior vacuum, etc. They are very fast, usually out the door in 10-15 minutes tops. But $42 for a friggin oil change? The hell with that.

So now, it's either do it myself or take it to whoever is running a coupon special. Goodyear, Firestone, GM Dealer, or my independant mechanic if I call ahead of time and make sure he's got time to do it.

I change my own oil, just changed it today actually. I use Mobil 1 oil filter w/ Mobil 1 Synthetic oil. I choose to do my own because I just dont have the time to take it to the dealer for them to do it, plus I like taking care of my own truck. When I do have time for the dealership they arent open...

When should we be changing our trans fluid, diff, etc?

Thanks,
deejayrock
