The smaller tire diameter will give you more pulling and hill climbing power, same effect as a higher ratio differential gearing, so your highway hill results make sense. The wheel spin in 2WD wasn't because of the taller tires, in fact would be the opposite if all things were equal. I'm guessing you are just seeing the added traction of brand new tires.

I also would give those a reasonable credit for wet traction.

But remember, you need to take one more step...
They need a break in period like I mentioned in my Post #5.
