yes they are replacing the slip yoke with a new one. it sounds like it is rubbing when you go over bumps and the suspension is settling, like a shock problem but it is not that. and I have the "clunk" sound and feel when I slow down and stop at a light - like the drive train is bound up. it is because the splines are dry and catching.
dealership said they have a new design out now that should eliminate having to lubricate the current one repeatedly

dealer called and said that this should be in shortly. I guess the delay is because the Tahoe and Surburban was not included in the recal/replacment of this part, only the trucks. So until about 1 month ago all the dealers could do was lube the joint for the SUVs. They now can replace the part.

They still use Slip Yokes? Poor design... they went to a fixed yoke on the Wrangler Rubicon back in '03...
I'm not sure if the cheaper ones are still a slip yoke...

not for sure, I would think it is the same design for all of the 07+ Tahoe/Suburbans. If you have a "squeek" noise when going over bumps or a "clunk" feel when coming to a stop and starting - like a slow rolling stop. Then that is the issue. basically the driveshaft splines get dry with the current design and need to be lubed again to get rid of the noises.
but once that is done it wont last for long before the same thing could happen again so the dealer said their is a new design for the Tahoes that will eliminate this. mine is a 2wd so I do not know if the 4x4 is a different design?

ok got it fixed this morning under the powertrain warranty - 100% better now. I used to have some noise over nearly every slight bump and would have the jerk/clunk feel when coming to a stop. it is all gone now and it feels like a new truck or like it should in the first place. while waiting I was able to lust over the ZR1 in the showroom...
it looks like the wording on the paperwork is "replaced slip yoke and u joint per bulliton 09-04-17-002C"
