Question Help with Alternator 2000 suburban

Hey guys my 2000 chevy suburban took yet another dump on me... I was driving it around today and got a car wash when leaving the car wash my battery light came on and my amp/ volt gauge dropped very low. I took the suv to autozone where they checked the battery and the battery was not getting a charge at all it was o% charge but was good battery.. Wehen i Turned back on the truck the gauges did not work my speedometer would not go up the gas gauge didnt move and the dash was very dim.. now i was going to buy a new alternator but not sure on the amp.. how do i find out the amp for that truck and is this even an alternator issue?

You need to replace the battery, alternator and check the Ignition switch and instrument cluster. Replace them too if necessary. If the problem still continues, check the voltage charge and do the following tests/procedures.
1) Backprobe the Brown (25) at the alternator for 10v with the engine running.
2) If the voltage goes low, disconnect the alternator to determine if the alternator is pulling the voltage low or is there a problem with the 10v turn on signal from the Powertrain Control.
The potential causes could be Alternator or Wiring or PCM.

Not that AutoZone is my favorite stop, but, they should have been able to tell you if your Alternator was ok or not, along with the Battery.

They'll know/can tell which (amp rating) Alternator is on there now.

If there's any question about either, replace BOTH !

PS: I"m pretty sure that information (amp rating) is given on the RPO Tag stuck in the Glove Box.
