Here is an off the wall question, but has anyone done an install on an OEM reverse back-up camera WITHOUT having the Nav/DVD unit? I don't have a need for the Nav/DVD unit but would really like to have the back-up camera to be able to hook our boat up this summer. Is it possible to hook up an external screen somewhere on the rearview mirror or near the radio?Any ideas here?

 

I would like to know this also. I am going to replace my factory radio with an aftermarket touch sceen. The radio is compatible with a camera. I want to know if the factory camera can just plug into it.

My question is - 15921872 is the harness that goes from the head unit to the rear DVD, I think? ZX? biglg? TMW??
Maybe it is already in the roof liner???

I went with the aftermaket variety... Much cheaper, easier and just as effective

 

whats easier, installing the backup camera with or without a gen3 lockpick??

with the factory camera, must the head unit be reflashed.

 

You will need TEC 2 if the HU was not coded for Rear Camera... OEM that is, with the coastaltech locpik.. It has an aux vid in to use. But does not switch off and on with the truck in reverse.

The good news your knowledge and ideas have really inspired me...I completed my camera install and it works beautifully....
My question is to get the dealer to reflash my NAV unit....

I have a 2007. In 2007 the backup camera was NOT an option. It only became an option in 08....
With the TIS2000/Tech2 software, can this still be done or accessed? I heard that the Tech2 reads your VIN number. If this is the case, it will not give a UVC camera option???
I need to change the year of my car to an 08' or I need to enter the VIN manually... Anyone with expertise on this can advise me what to do....I have been fighting my dealer just to even try this at all...
