Default Cause for damage to catalyst

Hi everyone. Thank you everyone who was helping me out in my other posts regarding the catalytic converter and the O2 sensors.
I read that a contributing factor that may damage the catalytic converter (bank 1/2) could be a blown cylinder. Should I change out the cylinder first instead of the converters to prevent the new catalytic converters from being damaged. Has anyone done this before? I’m guessing if a cylinder was blown, I wouldn’t be able to drive the vehicle, correct? Please and thank you

I'm assuming you mean blown head gasket. If so, your mechanic can test for that with a compression test.

if the convertor is plugged...it probably got hot from a misfire or leaking injector.
bad fuel trim kill convertors.
if the only symptom you have is a low efficiency dtc and everything else is working normally....it could be just a tired old 20yo convertor. that don't last forever.

Nothing ever does, including us. lol!

I'm surprised my 98' K-1500 Chevy Catalytic Convertor is still working well.

You REALLY need to decide how much you like this vehicle. ($$$) 😬
