Default Emissions Readiness

Can't register my new Tracker because it won't pass Evap and Catalyst readiness. I've driven about 50 miles since I had to reset the codes (CEL was out and had a stored evap code) and still neither has changed. What's the secret way to get these "Ready"? I'm used to my '99 Tacoma that can reach readiness sitting in a parking lot.

I don't know any secret way. Have a look at your live data and see how your O2 sensors are performing. I have had to replace both O2 sensors and my catalytic convertor to get my 1999 Chevy Tracker to pass.

I also had to replace my Evaporators Canister Purge Valve. It wasn't bad, but I accidentally broke one of the little plastic tubes. You can trouble shoot the Purge Valve and see if your's is good.

The thing with Trackers: The computer doesn't always throw a code when there's a problem. Sometimes you just have to figure it out using the symptoms, your wisdom, and this forum.

Good luck.

Is that for evap or everything?
"Cold" is under 35F?? Well that's never going to happen here in AZ...

Would be nice to see more context for the "I/M System Status"es

These are the EVAP I/M requirements. I never noticed that 35° requirement.

Maybe that's why my I/M tests don't run.

But my EVAP I/M won't run today because I just filled the gas tank. Which EVAP code did you have stored?

I wish I wrote it down, but I filled up the other day, so still working it down to 3/4 tank, so I'll take a 20 min drive when it gets closer and hope that does it.

You didn't say what year model your Tracker is. These are the four possible EVAP codes on my 2001.
P0440 EVAP leak detected (small)
P0450 EVAP Pressure Sensor Malfunction
P0451 EVAP Pressure Sensor Range
P0455 EVAP leak detected (large)

How are you going to get around the 35° cold start requirement?

I was pretty sure it had something to do with the VSV and I'm hoping it was a fluke....but then again someone had deliberately broken the CEL so it must have been on for a while.
It's a 2003
Just going to hope it doesn't actually require a temp that low. If it does, I suppose I can pull the coolant temp sensor wires and replace it with a potentiometer temporarily.

What the heck is VSV?

" I suppose I can pull the coolant temp sensor wires and replace it with a potentiometer temporarily."
Can you show them documentation that the I/M test will not run above 35°? Surely you're not the first person to have this problem.

Vacuum switching valve.
I could try... but I doubt it.
