Default P0340 code, camshaft position sensor

I have a 2000 chevy tracker with the 2.0L motor it stopped running tonight and the code said P0340 (camshaft position sensor). My question is what are the chances of this being a timing belt. The vehicle has 116,000 miles on it and it was running good till it just stopped running while I was doing 65 MPH. Tomorrow i will check it out so one more question. what is the easiest way to check the timing belt and the sensor.
Thanks,
Evelyn

Default broken timing chain

I took the valve cover off and the chain is broken. do the valves get damaged when the chain breaks on this engine?

Make sure there is lubrication getting to the chain. It shouldn't break that soon if it was taken care of. I believe it is an interference motor, but you be lucky and have no damage.
