Default Tracker 101: intro to OBDII mode $06

OBDII PCM's respond to ten different requests from an
OBDII scanner. Not all scanners can issue all requests.

Only one of my scanners...

can request mode $06 data.

The mode $06 data consists of a two-(HEX)digit Test ID (TID) followed by a two-(HEX)digit
Component ID (CID). Also displayed are the count required to trip the DTC called the limit
(MIN or MAX) and the current test results. The limit and the results are usually displayed
as a HEX numbers but my scanner converts them to decimal.

Mode $06 lets you see if a component is failing before it actually fails. The problem is without a table to
translate the HEX codes there is no way to know what is being tested. Neither the Chevy or Suzuki
service manuals provide that table.

The mode $06 request for a 2001 V6 PCM returns 37 test results. I have done my best to decipher the Test IDs based on a Suzuki document Chevy published on of their mode $06 websites.
Thirty of the 37 tests (81%) monitor the O2 sensors. Two of the "tests" are really EVAP solenoid commands from a bi-directional scanner. A full-size picture of this worksheet can be download
