Can you send a a clear picture of your father's multimeter?
The test you need to do is tricky and has to be done carefully.
this is the meter

Electrical problems can be hard to isolate. Taking the car to someone with experience and diagnostic equipment may be your best course of action. I am interested in what they find at the shop. Keep in touch.
i took it here
im sold on them too,it died right in front of the place during the morning rush hour traffic
2 of their guys came out & helped me ,thats where i was going in the 1st place it was the battery, which had expanded really bad & the altnerator was bad a belt was bad, that i dinnt even know was there, they checked out a bunch of stuff some of it im aware of,some of it i wasnt aware of
some of it is nick-picking as i call that stuff & then theres some of it thats heavy duty, its expensive to fix otherwords
thankx for helping me

i found this in my search for the tracker they have ruied thm look what they did to the ranger
1. How much did Pep Boys charge for the repairs?
2. What else did they find wrong?
3. What is the Lowest DC volt range on your meter? I can't tell it it's 15 or 75.
4. The 2022 Chevy Tracker is not available in US or Canada.
the meter the lowest is 15
as far as the tracker goes,
$439,i also had a 10% senior discount, i cant belive im old enough for that kinda stuff,my birthday is couple of weeks
they checked the brake system, they said it was full of trash, imnot suprised the car sat for a year or so dinnt go anywhere
the emmisions was good
fluid type stuff was all good, for the most part, tell you about that in a minute
checked the belts both needed replacing i replaced the power steering one
deck filter, engine filter both needing replacing
wipers,im aware of that one
electric except the charging part, which thats what got fixed yesterday
now for the biggie
it dinnt do this before, not until it just sat for a year its got a head gasket leak, leaks oil on the drivers side, this is big bucks
$17.000 in parts $ 1,000 in labor all together $27.000 to do both sides
my sister thinks the car is not worth it,myself i feel like it is,ive already put some bucks before this ,she also thinks because its got 200,00+ miles on her now its not worth it
to me it is ive gotten rather fond of it now, i really like it the age too
ive drove cars with leaking head gaskets before i just have to keep a eye out on the oil,now that its not hot out it wont be so bad
its not in bad shape, its got a few interior things needs to be seen about body is straight, everything works as it should, its all orginal no changes at all,if it needs another engine sooner or later i will probly will have 1 put in,im sure other places are just as much ,going by some stuff like my thunderbird cost about as much,so im assuming it would be about that much
then have it repainted i think it would be a great little tracker again
my late father got this for my mom i think in 2005 (used) its been in our family ever since another reason i dont want to get rid of it
it was the last car he bought her,her last car she cant drive now
so yeah this tracker has some history

1. How to check if your alternator is working: Select the 15 volt DC scale on your meter. Measure the voltage at the battery terminals with the engine off. I should be around 12 volts. Start the engine. Remeasure the voltage at the battery terminals. If it reads two volts higher than the first time, your alternator is working. If it still reads 12 volts your alternator is dead.
2. $27,000 for two head gaskets is way too much. A complete head gasket set (with new head bolts) is only $100 at RockAuto. A thousand for labor sounds about right.. It's a big job. However, I don't think I would replace the head gaskets on an engine with 200,000 miles. You can get a remanufactured H25 (your engine) for around $4,200. It will probabaly cost another grand to have it installed. But then you have a virually new engine that will take you another 200,000 miles. $5,200 may seem like a lot but it's a whole less then $52,000 for a new car. And like you I love my Tracker.

My wife has an 04 tracker, the last year the US had them produced for the streets, and I say thank God for small miracles LoL! We got the thing used for free from her stepmoms sister, and it has been alright on reliability, but a PITA to work on! The rarity of this vehicle in the central Oklahoma area of the US is astonishingly infuriating...my issue is not just the starter at the moment, as it doesn't stop engaging once you turn the key, even after you turn it off and remove the d@mn key and I had to jump out and disconnect the battery cable. My problem started when the wife was on her way to work, it stalled on her after she had made a turn onto the main road/highway and had to hit the emergency turn lane to be able to get out of traffic, then a cop pushed her car with his SUV onto a side road, and he was an @ss to my wife, even threatened to take her to jail and was ridiculously rude, that's a different discussion though. I was picked up and got there and after a quick inspection, I asked her to try to start it and I could hear as to why it wouldn't start and the starter sounded strong, so I told her to quit trying I needed to look around and I thought she wouldn't quit and I yelled to stop trying to start it when she smacked the windshield to get my attention, I look up and she's showing me the key in her hand. I have worked on a lot of different vehicles but never encountered that before, I quickly went to grab a wrench and take the cable off and before I got back it had quit. I though that was weird. So it sounded like it wasn't getting gas, so I checked fuses and the injector fuse was popped, I swapped it out and we drove home, I didn't think anything of it, and it drove fine. So I was thinking problem solved, (Yay!) and we went to pick up my son from school and we get a block from his school and the car stalled again...I was thinking ok check that fuse again, sure enough it was popped so I put another in and was intending on testing injectors with an ohm meter when I got home to see if one was shorted. Well the car had different plans and wouldn't start again and then the starter stuck engaging again and I again quickly grabbed a wrench to undo the cable again and the starter started smoking and I could smell burning wire so I quickly got it undone and it quit, and had the car towed home. Are the two issues related? The battery isn't the problem, but I'm thinking the starter smoking is a definite sign the solenoid is F'd but I don't think that has anything to do with the injector fuse popping. My plan is to remove the starter and inspect the wiring because I'm sure the ground to the frame is corroded and that would cause the starter to not disengage. The ohm test is still my go to for the injectors, if they all pass than I'm going to unplug one at a time to figure out what one is popping the fuse. Any ideas would be appreciated, when I get a new vehicle I'm burning this thing down because it isn't often it has a serious problem but the ones it has had have been major and finding the parts has been an expedition to say the least. But any helpful info y'all can think of I'll say thanks in advance
got welded to these copper contacts. That's why your starter would not stop cranking. Smoke from the stater indicates your motor windings probably overheated. RockAuto.com is a good place to shop for a new starter.
On my 2001 V6 engine, the fuel injection fuse (also called the main fuse) is a 15-amp fuse located in the engine bay on the fuse block. That fuse powers much more than just the fuel injectors (see attachment).

I appreciate the rapid response brother, my problem with this pic youve provided, which i appreciate greatly I might add, might as well be written in Egyptian hyrogliphics to me I see the injectors because they're labeled but the rest of that is foreign to me. I guess that pitiful because I'm a commercial and residential electrician LoL, but these kinds of plans are not my specialty at all, I was taught how to wire stuff up by a retiring journeyman who taught me how to wire just about anything but didn't explain how he read stuff like this hahaha. I figured since I got it in my driveway now I was going to resistance test the injectors to see if I found any weird readings compared to the others on the resistance level, if they all read within .5 of one another then i was told they were fine and then I was going to work my way back from there...I have the Hynes Bible for the tracker I was goi g to start reviewing what is all tied into that fuse and was going to start at the ends and if required I'll have to open the harness up and check for rub and or hot spots where the short could be occurring. I read something this morning about someone having the same issue found a bare area of the wire in the harness where it was too close to the back of the motor. I hope it's just a shorted injector. Knowing my luck with this vehicle though it's going to be something ridiculous lol! Again thank you for the reply and I'm going to be googling how to read Egyptian electronics lol thanks again for reaffirming my assumption that the starter smoking was a sure sign of damage to it, the thing is it didn't stick every time it was cranked it was intermittently doing it, but it did that probably three times and I rushed to disconnect the battery every time. I luckily found a match for the starter and solenoid for 68 bucks it'll take a few days to get here but I'm glad I found one on the cheaper side, which runs its own risks as far as quality goes, but this thing has got nearly 300k on it so I'm not wanting to drop lots of cash into it before I get my taxes back. I'm going to go with what I know well this time and get myself a chevy pickup with a small block 350 thats got a carburetor instead of efi or a throttle body, a lot less electronic junk to deal with and I can tear one of them down to the block and rebuild it in two days of I have to...
