2004 trailblazer ran out of gas and gas pedal now grinds

2004 trailblazer ran out of gas and gas pedal now grinds
My 2004 trailblazer ran out of gas yesterday while i was driving 
. After filling it from my emergency tank, I pressed the gas pedal to circulate the gas. It now makes a grinding sound when i press the gas pedal and the cars shakes violently.
It sounds like a cynderblock is stuck in the under- carriage. As a result, the engine light blinks constantly! I made an appointment to have a computer diagnostic this weekend. 
I would like to know what type of damage did i cause and how much will it run to fix it before i take it to the dealership? Whats wrong with it?
