Spring maintenance for your brakes
We have a 2004 2WD Trailblazer that we bought new. Wentto dealer for all maintenance and services required by GM. 7/20/07 went in for an oil change, they recommended checking the brakes at 36,000 miles. Vehicle at this time had 38,691 miles found pads and rotors need replaced. Went back to look at problem in service bay.My cost rotors, parts, labor $692.67.
Why doesn't GM recommend/perform any sort of maintenance on brakes, rotors and calipers, annually.

They actually kinda do. If you look in the back of the manual it has that chart. Its every 8,000-12,000 I belive. They should also be checking it "visually" when you rotate your tires. If not, tell them to. That bill by the way is extremely too expensive. Parts I can see being $200 but the rest labor? Wow.
im surprissed...... at the life of the pads and rotors. Where do you live? do you tow?
I have an 03 LS. 2 wd. I bought it new in late 2002.
I have 122,600 miles on it now.
The rotors are still factory. And have never been turned.
I visually checked my brakes at about 113,000 and the rears were at about 70%.
The front pads were changed about 80,000. And they currently have about 5-10,000 miles left on them.
no pulsing from the rotors either...
I Live in southern california.

Obviously dealer was not doing the visual inspection at each oil change? Dealer labor, $300.90. Dealer parts not generic parts, $371.00. Went back in at 44,416 mi. for oil change, caliper service, etc. They found a chunk of pad broken, missing from right frontassembly. Replaced free from 7/07 service.
