Default Lift gate

Hi im new here this may or may not have been addressed already it it has please direct me to that thread. I have a2012 Traverse the lift gate well open but before it get to the top it will fall a few inches open all the way then it closes. started this all at once. any help greatly appreciated.

The lift gate struts do most of the work lifting the gate and holding the gate open . You have weak struts. With a helper to hold the gate open replace the struts one at a time. New installation procedure requires the body of the strut on top when the gate is closed.

That is what i was thinking. but I don't understand the last part of your statement could you please explain. also does anyone know for sure if there are two different struts two places i have called has a right and a left and the other only has one part # for both sides.

The struts on one end is the body or fat end . The other end is a skinning rod. The fat end should be attached to the vehicle and the skinny rod end should be attached to the door.


Just buy then from your Chevrolet parts department and get what is correct application.

There is a recall on the lift gate dropping unexpectedly. Check the GM website for your model.
