Unhappy Buying a spare key

I went into a locksmith to buy a spare key and fob, but was told they couldn't make me one because the only key that came with my 2006 Uplander was the original spare. They also gave a a horror story about paying as much as the van cost me just to get one, and not being able to get into the van ever without it. So where do I get one? And are they really that expensive? Thanks.

locksmith or dealer is probably the easiest route. walmart may be the cheapest. i dont recall if it was $30 something or $60 something but they claimed they could do it.

most Canadian builds require 2 programmed keys to add an additional key...since you don't have that you will need dealer or locksmith programming...typically $100 for programming.

be glad you don't have a ford...they don't keep key codes past ten years.

I would check with a different locksmith. then different dealers, some are $100+, some are $25.
I will have to look it up but I BELIEVE you can program a 3rd key yourself, after you have two programed keys. But, you can not program the remotes

It is as easy as holding a couple buttons on the fob to program an pk3 key to 08 Uplanders. When you get keys on eBay they include instructions. I paid 16USD for some ek3 keys had cantire cut them for me and programmed it myself

The seller was USA based “yourkeysupplier” if I’m not mistaken and the instructions on programming transponder keys (And you are correct they are Pk3) are within the owners manual

Pass key 3 program instructions

I bought a used car a couple of months ago from a Volvo dealer. Now the car has keyless entry and the dealer said that they are waiting for the spare key from the previous owner. If you lose the key and fob, you can expect a dealer replacement and programming to cost depending on the vehicle and the key's design.
