How do I replace the dreaded thermostat?
#11
For anyone else looking for help on this:
I know it shows my age, but if you happened to own a good old "punch-buggy" you had one of these: an 8mm wrench that was once straight, but bent into a "long-S" shape using a big torch, a vise and big pliers. This was to adjust the carb on the old motors. It happens to be the perfect wrench to get at the rear bolt on the thermostat housing. Approach from the firewall side under the crossover pipe. You'll be restricted to small amounts of movement and best to use a big screwdriver as leverage; but you'll get it.
Here's the video: It's titled 3400/3800 motor, but applied to my 3500 Uplander.
