Default positive cable at alternator very hot

well the other day i grabbed the positive cable at the alternator to make sure it wasnt loose and it literally burned me. the cable was fried pretty much. well i just blew it off as a bad cable and bought all new cables for all the positive side of the battery. i got it up and running and the connection at the alternator is still getting hot. the connection at the battery and the accessory box is fine though. anyone have any ideas as to where to start. id think that if something was shorted out that the cables around the battery would be getting hot also.

You didn't say if you disconnected the alternator cable, cleaned and reattached it. Also the connector might be loose from the cable at the alternator. Disconnect the battery before you do this.

i didnt say that i cleaned and reattached but i did say that i replaced ALL the POSITIVE cables. that included the one from the alternator to the starter. only one i didn't replace was the negative from the battery.
