2016 Chevy SS Nails Performance, Misses Luxury, Still a Unique Deal

There is literally not another production car you can buy that is like the 2016 Chevrolet SS. An American (well, Australian, really) rear-wheel-drive, five-seater sedan with a naturally aspirated V8 and a manual transmission for less than $50,000.

Not even the German counterparts that made the sport sedan segment so popular can claim the purity that comes from the SS, thanks to the lack of manuals and turbocharged engines in the Mercedes-AMGs and BMWs. Even Cadillac’s super sedans use superchargers and turbos and cost tens of thousands of dollars more.

Starting at $46,575, the 415-horsepower SS is truly a steal from a driving enthusiast’s perspective. Based on the Australian-developed Holden Commodore, the SS uses a 6.2-liter LS3, has a completely reworked chassis and suspension with magnetic ride control, sounds fantastic from its dual-exhaust with quad tips, and uses elite stopping power with its massive Brembo brakes.

It goes from 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, and Holden tests ’em on the Nurburgring. It’s a package worth drooling over, as Motor Trend editor and Ignition host Jason Cammisa proves. But there are a couple things lacking. Find out what issues Cammisa has with the car below:
