2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV: Chevrolet Expands Growing EV Portfolio with All-Electric Blazer

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

Chevrolet Blazer EV will come in multiple trims including a performance SS model and even a pursuit-rated model for police duty.

The Blazer has been an on-again/off-again model for Chevrolet since 1969. It went through several iterations. It started as a basic SUV that was essentially an enclosed pickup truck. At one time it included the smaller S-10 Blazer model. The Blazer eventually was replaced by the TrailBlazer. In 2009 that model was killed. The Blazer returned to the market in 2019 as a unibody crossover. And now we have perhaps the most significant change in Blazer history. On July 18 Chevrolet revealed the all-electric 2024 Blazer EV. This all-new Blazer could not be more different than the 1969 version that started it all. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. The Blazer EV is based on GM’s Ultium platform, which can also be found under the highly successful Hummer EV.

The new 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV will blaze a path (sorry for the bad pun) to first time EV ownership for many. It will do this with competitive pricing and myriad trim, range, and drive configuration options. On the range front the Blazer EV will offer anywhere between 247 and 320 miles of range. The EV SUV will be available in front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations. And trim levels will include 1LT, 2LT, RS and Chevy’s first-ever electric SS performance model, along with a pursuit-rated Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) model for police fleet applications. “The 2024 Blazer EV sets a new tone for electric SUVs, with options and intuitive technologies that help position Chevy for leadership in one of the fastest-growing EV segments,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet.

Zero emissions and a long range is great and all. But we love performance so let’s begin with the hot SS model. This is the very first SS performance EV model from Chevy. It has a special AWD configuration and produces 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque. Yes, for those keeping score that is more than a C8 Corvette Stingray. Per Chevy the Blazer EV SS can hit 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. Helping to slow it down are Brembo front brakes. The SS also offers a sport tuned chassis and 22-inch wheels. All this and it still offers a reasonable 290 miles of range on a full charge.

RS

Sporty Design

The SS might be the sportiest Blazer EV but all of the models follow an athletic design motif. “The Blazer EV’s design evokes the same sort of emotional response as Chevy’s performance cars,” said Phil Zak, executive director, Chevrolet Design. “There’s true SUV functionality, but inside and out, it has the sort of passionate proportions and feel that make you want to slide behind the wheel and explore what’s beyond the horizon. It’s a vehicle that looks great from every angle and beckons you to drive.”

We discussed the SS, but the Blazer EV will also be offered in 1LT, 2LT, and RS trims. The 1LT will be the entry level model but is by no means basic. It only comes in FWD, but it has full LED lighting, 19-inch wheels, a 17.7-inch color infotainment touchscreen, and an 11-inch driver info center. It also comes with 11.5 kW level 2 (AC) charging and standard DC public fast-charging capability of up to 190 kW, which enables approximately 78 miles of range to be added in 10 minutes, per GM estimates. Range is estimated at 247 miles. The 2LT gives you the option of AWD and ups the estimated range to 293 miles.

The RS is the range king with an estimate of 320 miles on a full charge. It also adds 21-inch wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated flat-bottom steering wheel. The RS model also offers FWD, AWD, and RWD depending on the battery pack selected. The RS also adds some sporty touches such as blue and red contrasting stitching.

Interior

Technology

The new Blazer EV comes loaded with tech. Forget keyless start, you don’t even need to push button to start this vehicle. If you have the key fob in your pocket all you need to do is push the brake pedal after closing the door and the Blazer EV is ready to go. Other highlights include a power-opening charge port door, regen braking, hands-free liftgate operation, and Super Cruise that allows for hands-free driving. Of course, there is also a full suite of driver assistance technology including things such as advanced park assist, forward collision alert, and reverse automatic braking.

When and How Much?

The Blazer EV models will be released in a staggered approach based on trim level. The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV 2LT and RS will be released first and go on sale the summer of 2023. The price of the 2LT will be $47,595 and the RS will be $51,995. The SS model will be released later in 2023 and will be priced at $65,995. The 1LT and the PPV model will be out Q1 of 2024. The 1LT will be priced at $44,995. Reservations are open now and require only a refundable $100 deposit. Based on what we have seen with other exciting new EV products, if you are interested in the Blazer EV, you better reserve it quick.
