Buy a Hail-Damaged Yukon, Get a Free Smart Car

Free smart car

Some dealers throw in floor mats, but this Colorado dealer is a whole lot, ahem, Smart-er.

Would you drive a Smart car if you got it for free? Seriously, we know it’s not the most original question, because anyone who’s ever seen one of these pregnant roller skates has probably wondered the same thing. But right now, a Colorado dealer is giving away a free Smart car with the purchase of a hail-damaged vehicle. So, there are actually buyers currently wrestling with this generally hypothetical question — and that’s kind of hilarious.

Now, a couple of days ago, we wrote about how the 2018 Tahoe Custom is affordable enough, and how you could spring for some toys — like say, a Polaris RZR XP Turbo Dynamix Edition — after you seal the deal. And that’s sound reasoning, particularly if you like blasting through the desert in a roid-raging golf cart that would be only too happy to facilitate your demise. That said, what if you could pick up this hail-damaged 2017 GMC Yukon XL at a discount of around $13,000, and the dealer just thows in a Smart car? Just think about how much fun you could have with your new toy!

Personally, this would be all the encouragement we’d need to actually take a crack at one of our dream builds: a Hayabusa-powered Smart car. We mean, have you seen these things? You lose reverse gear, and from our understanding, you have to keep the motorcycle’s sequential shift, because the transmission housing is integrated into the block.

But it’s always been our belief here at Chevrolet Forum that not having reverse isn’t a problem — unless you don’t know you have reverse. Otherwise? It’s just a matter of planning. And just imagine the fun you could have with a ‘Busa-swapped, 200-horsepower Smart car! It’s like a Polaris RZR you could take to the grocery store, and you’d be able to blow away virtually anyone who pulled up next to you at a stoplight, unless you made a wrong turn and ended up at the NHRA’s Funny Car Nationals. For those who want to take advantage of this buy-one-get-one deal but don’t need something as big as the Yukon, you could park your Smart car next to this slightly-dimpled Enclave.

That said, would you ever buy a hail-damaged vehicle, regardless of the promotion? Sound off in the forum!
