Truck of the Year

This is the third win for the Chevrolet Colorado as it also won Truck of the Year honors in 2015 and 2016.

Competition for the 2024 MotorTrend Truck of the Year award was fierce. However, the Chevrolet Colorado managed to come out on top to win the ‘Golden Calipers.’ The Colorado beat out 13 different contenders such as the Ford F-150 Raptor R, and the recently refreshed Ford Super Duty line. The broad Colorado lineup that includes models with impressive off-road abilities and everyday livability was a key factor in taking the win. This is the third time the Colorado has taken home the prize, after winning back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016.

“The Colorado lineup’s performance on- and off-road, particularly the ZR2’s prowess, is nothing short of exceptional, rivaling even some of the most revered off-road vehicles available,” said Ed Loh, MotorTrend Group head of editorial. “Earning MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year award is a testament to the Colorado’s all-encompassing excellence across various terrains and utility needs.”

All eligible trucks are judged in six key categories. They are Advancement in Design, Efficiency, Engineering Excellence, Performance of Intended Function, Safety, and Value. The Truck of the Year title is among the most prestigious awards that MotorTrend hands out. “We are absolutely thrilled to see Colorado take home the MotorTrend Truck of the Year award,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “The all-new Colorado boasts elevated performance, capability and refinement in every respect, across every trim offered. This award is a testament to Colorado’s mantra: it’s made for more.”

Colorado Lineup

The Colorado lineup offers a truck for everyone. The models offered are: Work Truck (WT), LT, Z71, ZR2 and the first-ever Trail Boss. A two-wheel drive WT starts at just over $30,000. A loaded up ZR2 Desert Boss Special Edition can cross the $60,000 mark. And there is a lot of Chevy truck goodness in between. Every Colorado model is excellent and that is what made it a winner.

Where the Colorado & Chevrolet Shines

The Colorado excels in a number of key areas that helped to put it over the top. The utility of the pickup box was praised thanks to things like corner bed steps, tie-downs and mounting points. The truck won points for its rugged good looks. The Multimatic spool-valve shocks on the ZR2 were universally loved. The Colorado is also a good value with the ZR2 priced about $5K below a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon or Mojave.

And the ZR2 handles better on the road and is quicker than those Jeeps. Overall, the Colorado simply offers a diverse range of choices that can be tailored to the way that customers use their trucks. Whether it is for work or play, there is a Colorado that is right for you.

Chevrolet is on a roll at the moment. MotorTrend has already named the Chevrolet Blazer EV its SUV of the Year. It is the first time in history that both of those awards have gone to the same brand.
