Chevy Adds 100 Bolts to Car-Sharing Service
Los Angeles-Based Maven Gets Electrified with New Bolts
General Motors started its Los Angeles-based car sharing service, Maven, only a few months ago, in October 2016, to be exact. And that program has so far proven to be incredibly successful. Since then, Maven has enjoyed an average month-over-month growth of 56 percent. The existing gasoline-powered fleet lacks an EV, however. At least until now.
GM announced this week that it will add 100 Chevy Bolts to its Maven fleet in the near future. The GM predicts that the addition will allow for close to 250,000 annual miles of all-electric driving once fully deployed. And it isn’t just car-sharing users who will get to “borrow” a Bolt. The vehicles will also be available for those who participate in the Lyft Express Drive Program.
Lyft drivers are able to rent a Chevy Equinox for $99 a week with the current program. Those who simply need to utilize the car sharing service can rent a car for between $6 and $8 an hour. Maven has already expanded to 17 cities in the U.S. and Canada, and users have logged an impressive 78 million miles in just a few month’s time.
The tremendous success of Maven can be attributed to it’s value and unique convenience features. There’s no annual membership fee or sign up costs, and an employee will actually drive the car to you if you request one. It’s proven to be a big hit with urban dwellers who don’t want the hassle or cost of owning and maintaining a car, but still need one from time to time.
Adding the Chevy Bolt to Maven’s fleet is a move that will benefit everyone involved. Less emissions and less cars promise to benefit smoggy and congested Los Angeles roads. Costs promise to be even less for drivers who won’t need to buy gas, and Chevy can further expand it’s already successful program. And that’s what we call a winning proposal.
