After resetting the record books years ago, this purpose-built 1977 GMC Kingsley motorhome is looking for a new home.

Over the past few years, RV’ing has become more popular than ever, spurred on by the desire of people to get out and enjoy nature, as well as travel the country in total comfort. As a result, we’re seeing more motorhomes, campers, and camper-converted vans out on the roads than ever before, and manufacturers are obliging by offering more of these types of vehicles, too. However, this 1977 GMC Kingsley motorhome has been stripped of all of the things that make a motorhome a motorhome, all in the name of speed.

Currently up for grabs on Facebook Marketplace, this 1977 GMC Kingsley motorhome became the world’s fastest Class A motorhome at the Bonneville Salt Flats several years ago after reaching a speed of 122.156 miles-per-hour. It’s a truly astonishing, head-scratching sort of machine, which is precisely why we love it so much – after all, it isn’t every day we come across a massive motorhome that’s been specifically built to so something that no RV is – go fast.

As one might imagine, that was precisely the goal of this particular build, which was put together by Britt Palmer. However, Palmer also wanted to use his ultra-fast mobile home on wheels to raise awareness for Charcot Marie Tooth Disease (CMT), which is a chronic, progressive, incurable neurological disorder that can – in some cases – cause those that suffer from it to lose normal use of their extremities. His goal, as such, was the surpass the old Class A record of 102.7 mph, and he did that with ease.

To get there, the motorhome was stripped of everything that isn’t needed to make it fast, leaving the interior devoid of pretty much everything but aluminum panels, racing buckets, a roll cage, and a cockpit straight out of a race car. Motivation comes from GM’s 502 cubic-inch V8, which cranks out 700 horsepower (and has an extra 125 available via a shot of nitrous), which flows to the wheels via a TH425 automatic gearbox and 3.07-geared rear end.

Now that Palmer has had his fun, set his record, and brought attention to a disease that’s widely unknown to most, it’s apparently time to move on, and this wicked fast GMC motorhome is now up for grabs with a price tag of $95k. The possibilities here are quite virtually endless, but we could see this thing wind up back at the local campgrounds with an interior redo – making it more of an entertaining yet still quick vessel for family vacations.
