Intimidating Chevy Rat Rod with ‘Rusty Balls’ Scares Us

Despite its humorous signage, awesome 1950 turbo-diesel-powered ride is probably best fit for The Creeper from Jeepers Creepers.

A big part of the allure of rat rods is their inherent creepiness. After all, why do you think Herman Munster drove a rat rod? There’s just something about a rusted out behemoth rolling coal with turbos whining that scares and/or upsets people. And that’s exactly why we love them. These unapologetic creations are designed to grab attention, whether that be the negative or the positive kind.

And grab attention is exactly what this crazy 1950 Chevy truck build, which we recently spotted on the Mecum auctions site, does. As if a rat-rodded 1950 Chevy wasn’t cool enough, this one’s got quite a few other things going for it. Namely, the addition of a giant fuel tank out back with Conoco livery. That, and a giant oil drum strapped to the side, making it a perfect service station rig.

However, according to the still-intact and rather sizeable signs on the side doors of the Chevy truck, this massive service rig was apparently for a place called “Rusty Balls Super Lube.”

That thinly veiled attempt at innuendo makes this truck look like a Saturday Night Live skit on wheels, but it also reminds us of the infamous “Creeper Truck” from the first Jeepers Creepers flick, pictured below. That particular ride was a 1941 Chevy COE owned by The Creeper and used to scare people and transport bodies — which are both tasks we can easily see this rat rod doing as well.

Instead of the blown 383 stroker used by the Creeper Truck, the “Rusty Balls” ride has a turbocharged 5.9 liter Cummins diesel, which is even scarier (and potentially more powerful), when you think about it. The whole thing sits on the ground thanks to a custom chassis and air ride set up. Completing the big-rig look is a set of 22″ Alcoa wheels with nice, pointy, and dangerous-looking lug nuts that seem custom-built for The Creeper to do some serious damage during the road rage encounters he’s been known to involve himself in time and again.

The whole thing leaves us a little confused as to whether we should be scared or giggling like a preadolescent. So, we can safely assume that the builder can declare mission accomplished on this one.
