Silverado to Get an Exclusive Infotainment System?

Are the latest spy photos of the 2022 Silverado and Sierra conclusive evidence of an infotainment system shakeup?

Rumor has it the Silverado may feature a different infotainment system than its sibling Sierra. Well, after several iterations, they certainly are due for a bit of a refresh. Courtesy of some spy photos secured by GM Authority, we’ve got an idea that GM might be up to something in the interior department. Typically, you’d expect the two light-duty icons to at least sport the same infotainment system. But, it appears that’s not the plan for the soon-to-be facelifted twins set to appear later this year.

While the spy shots for the 2022 Silverado are a bit difficult to make anything of, one thing is relatively clear according to GM Authority; the infotainment system appears to be notably taller. This might be the case, but we’re doubtful.

Infotainment Update

Unfortunately, the infotainment screen of the Chevy Silverado is so well covered in the photos it’s truly difficult to make anything out of it, let alone determine the dimensions.

In the Silverado spy photos, it certainly does appear to be taller than that of its GMC counterpart at first glance. But, that’s only what appears to be. A careful look at the dimensions in relation to neighboring equipment will show that it may not be all that it seems. From what we can tell, the top of the infotainment screen is relatively aligned with the top of the gauge cluster. Also, what appears to be the bottom of the infotainments screen reaches about the halfway mark on the steering column.

With all that in mind, it would appear the Silverado and Sierra might still be sharing the same infotainment unit. Unfortunately, it’s just too hard to tell.  We’ll have to wait for some better shots to reach a conclusive verdict on the matter.

GM Authority goes on the remind us that the 2022 Sierra, however, will actually offer two separate infotainment systems. Like the 2021 GMC Yukon, the 2022 Sierra will offer either an integrated system or a stand-up tablet-style infotainment screen.

Other Updates

Other updates include the omission of the column shifter. GM has opted to forgo the now-ancient tech for a spiffy new digital shifter in the center console of the vehicle. Much of the exterior appears to have changed, as expected. GM Authority reports that coming to the Sierra and Silverado are new tech, wheels, paint colors, and body panels as well. Oh, and if you’re wondering about the heavy-duty models, sit tight. We’ll have to wait another year to see where the big boys are getting their makeovers.

What do you think? Are we getting two different looks for the GM twins?
