Lingenfelter Chevy Suburban packing a 604 cubic-inch V8 is nearly as quick as supercars from its era, yet also rather tame.

The Chevrolet Suburban has been around for a long time now, proving quite popular as a large people-hauler that’s also capable of towing heavy loads, to boot. Along the way, consumers have also had a couple of performance-focused versions of the full-size SUV to choose from, not to mention some geared more toward off-road performance. However, few – if any – are as rare or capable as this seldomly-seen 1999 Lingenfelter Chevy Suburban built for a very specific reason.

In fact, the Lingenfelter Chevy Suburban that stars in this video from the YouTube channel Tedward is one of what’s believed to be eight or nine built in total, all for Saudis looking for a big, spacious SUV that also had copious amounts of power. The famous tuning house certainly worked some magic in that regard, stuffing the Suburban with a gigantic 9.9-liter (604 cubic-inch!) V8 with a marine block that churns out an impressive-for-its-time 550 horsepower and 750 pound-feet of torque.

That’s enough to propel the Lingenfelter Chevy Suburban from 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, yet another impressive figure for something so large and heavy – not to mention one put together in the 1990s. Heck, that’s more like sports car territory, and knocking on the door of the times we were seeing from a lot of supercars back then, to put things into perspective. On top of that, we don’t know how many of these potent SUVs are even left – let alone ones that are basically brand new, like this.

We can credit the survival of this Lingenfelter Chevy Suburban to the folks at Team Champagne Ninjas, who saved it from a salvage yard and commissioned AI Design in Tuckahoe, New York, to give it a full-blown restoration. The results, well, they speak for themselves, as this thing looks better than new. It isn’t every day that some one sinks this kind of money and work into a ’90s Suburban, but in this case, it was certainly warranted – if not for value, then for historical significance alone.

As for how it drives, well, our host comes away quite impressed. “I cannot believe the speed this is capable of,” he said, noting that its monstrous powerplant “makes a 454 look like a Corolla.” Despite that immense power, the SUV also proved quite tame under normal driving conditions, too. “I one-hundred percent expected this to be messy, and yet, somehow this is all, it’s all working,” he adds. Dare I say this, like, it drives better than my Lexus GX which is literally brand-new from 2023.”
