Velocity 1970 Chevy K5 Blazer Is Pure Restomod Perfection
Restomods just don’t get much better than this Chevy K5 Blazer from Velocity Restorations, at least, if you can afford it.
Most Bow Tie fans would argue that the Chevy K5 Blazer is easily one of the most iconic vehicles that brand has ever churned out, and it’s hard to argue with that notion. Rather, the K5 is a beautifully-styled, timelessly cool machine right out of the box, and we’d be happy to tool around in a bone stock example on any given day. However, the rise of finely crafted restomods also reminds us that even things as close to perfection as the Chevy K5 Blazer can be made, well, better, and there aren’t many finer examples of that notion than this stunning Velocity Signature Series model.
This 1970 Chevy K5 Blazer Velocity Signature Series is currently up for sale by the current owner at Exotic Car Trader, though they’ve only racked up 797 miles thus far. It may have started life as a regular old K5, but Velocity Restorations has since overhauled it from nose to tail, a process that started by replacing the stock underpinnings with a Roadster Shop VR Exclusive frame, a Dana 44 front axle, and a Dana 60 rear axle, while undersides have been covered in Raptor Liner to help keep them looking good for years to come.
On the outside, this K5 now wears a stunning shade of Olive Green paint, coupled with lower beltline trim, a set of power side steps, LED headlamps, and a custom safari top for fair weather cruising. The open-air SUV rolls on a set of 18-inch MT Bullet wheels wrapped with beefy BFGoodrich T/A tires, which perfectly pair with plenty of chrome – retaining much of the Blazer’s OEM goodness without going too terribly modern. Hydraboost-assisted power steering makes it easier to navigate parking lots, while four-wheel Wilwood disc brakes slow the whole thing down.
Moving inside, that isn’t quite the case, as Velocity went to town crafting a fine leather interior filled with a six-point roll cage and modern amenities such as a Vintage Air HVAC system, a touchscreen, an updated stereo system, an Ididit tilt steering column and wooden steering wheel, Dakota Digital gauges, and customer floor mats. Power for this finely crafted restomod SUV comes from a newer place as well – GM’s Gen 5 6.2-liter LT1 V8 – breathing through headers and a performance exhaust system – which sends power to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.
While we’d argue that this Chevy K5 Blazer is as nice as they come – pretty darn close to perfection, in fact – that sort of thing comes at a price. In fact, the asking price of this stunning machine is a rather lofty $353,100, but we imagine that anyone with the means to bring it home won’t be disappointed.
