Volkswagen Diesel TDI V10 Engine In a Chevy C/10 Has Us Curious

We aren’t really sure what to make of this frankenstein Chevy C10. It wears C10 skin, but has a VW TDI diesel engine and interior.

Because 2020 couldn’t end without one last strange thing happening, on New Year’s Eve, we spotted this Chevrolet C10. Those of us at ChevroletFourm pondered what to do with it, and we concluded that it is too strange not to share. What you see here is a custom C10 with a full interior and full drivetrain plucked from a Volkswagen Touareg. But not just any drivetrain. As the title suggests, this one has the Diesel TDI V10 engine.

The installation of this unique swap actually looks thoroughly planned and worked out. Under the hood, the VW firewall seems to be in place, and even things like the power steering pump and brake master cylinder are carried over from the German car. This may have been from convenience, or it may have been out of necessity. With using an all Volkswagen interior, the electronics might need to work in order for the car to drive or even fire up in the first place.

It wouldn’t be a Volkswagen without a check engine light, and keen eyed viewers will spot it glowing in this shot below. There’s other lights too, but we can’t identify what they are exactly, apart from not being red, which is likely a good thing. While the Volkswagen would be higher quality than the C10 interior it replaces, this swap comes with some downsides.

Volkswagen plastics are known for their soft-touch coating to come off, revealing ugly white plastic under it. And that’s exactly what’s happened here. But you are given a full dash, center console, carpeting and even seats from the Touareg. Amazingly, it fits like it should be in there. It’s not perfect, but the Chevy bowtie on the steering wheel is a nice touch.

In a bizarre twist, this thing should be properly fast. The website zeroto60times claims the Touareg can complete the sprint to 60 in 6.4 seconds. But that’s in a 5,800 lb vehicle. This C10 presumably weighs about two thousand pounds less. That could cut it down to 5 seconds or so. In a weird way, it’s a proper hotrod.
