Default 1997 5.7 build for a k1500 with manual trans

Hello everyone I'm kinda new to the whole engine building thing but I know a decent amount about the basics of engines. I'm trying to build for a off-roader/ daily if I need to drive it to work for some reason. Currently I have the engine pulled out as it had spun bearing#8 and started eating the rear main bearing so I'm rebuilding it right now and wanted to know what a good camshaft would be I've heard the comp cam 305h is decent and I love the way it sounds. I just don't know what all I'll need to be able to install it. Along with what else I'll need to upgrade. Currently the engine is a 1 price rear main and is a 2 bolt main with vortex heads and spider injection. I want to keep it fairly stock so that way I can keep it as reliable as possible.

In short I'm just looking to find out what all I'll need to upgrade to install a new cam and what would be a good cam for my application. Thank you in advance

Most of us don't get into modifications here, but don't go too far with the cam. It might not pass smog, and it might idle like ****. A relative of mine went too far and the loping at idle was horrible.

Good luck to you, whatever you decide to do!
