Default 90 Silverado k1500 re-adding oil cooler question

It's a 1990 Chevy Silverado k 1500 5.7 4x4. When I bought the truck the oil cooler was removed. The oil filter adaptor housing did not have the ports drilled to install the lines properly. So I tried drilling them out myself and one of them works great. The second one not so great. So my question is this. I've bought the remote filter adaptor kit but do I still have to have the original oil filter housing to use it because at this point it's pretty much not usable and I was trying to get around having to pay $300 for a new one.

Are you asking us if you can clean the old oil cooler?

You can probably route the tubing for the relocation kit to include the oil cooler.

The factory flow direction is pump to filter to cooler to engine, so all you’d need to do is route the return tubing from the remote filter mount to the oil cooler, then back to the block adapter. You’ll need to get fittings to attach the tubing to the oil cooler.

Make sure to use the upper oil cooler fitting as the inlet. They are designed to use gravity to prevent overworking the pump.
