Default Need some help

I just recently bought a 98 k1500 that has a solid axle swap and swap in a auto trans, the axle is from a 85 burban which has the pumpkin on the right side, I want to go back to a 5 speed and I need a t case that sits to the right so I can connect the drive shaft. So can I get any suggestions as far as what vehicles can I get parts from and etc.

You'll need to shoe-horn an NP-205 transfer case in there. Don't know if a 5 speed will bolt up. Might have to use the Muncie465 4 speed non OD or a Borg-Warner T-5 if you want overdrive.

Just an old term that means different things, but the main one is adapting something that is/was too large to fit so modifications had to be made.

Like if someone wanted to put a big-block motor into a car that wasn't made for it, that would be shoehorning. Or the idiots who used to jam a V8 motor into a Chevy Vega or a F**d Pinto. They'd blow the transmission or axle up in no time the second they put too much power to the floor.

ooo alrite. I'm unfortunately just trying to finish someone's project just so i can have 4x4 lol. I don't have to go back to a manual but I also don't trust the 4l60s and I'm not sure if I could easily and reasonably do a 4l80. Another question would be bout the nv3500 or 4500 that are used om dodge as well, could that be a option?

If you can get all of it to bolt up and mounted properly, I don't see why not. My NV3500 shifts as smooth as you can get and no issues at all. And its 22 years old too.

Np205, Np208, and some rare np241’s will have the correct drop side. You’ll need a 32 spline input. Finding an adapter may be the challenge as the nv3500/4500 weren’t used with straight axles to my knowledge. Custom adapters are available for almost anything though. Possibly some light fab work on a factory adapter would work as well. Think I’ve heard of using a 241 adapter on a 208 to switch sides.

A nv4500 is a really easy swap. It’s the same length as the 4l60e and will bolt to the existing cross member. No drive line work is needed.

thanks for the info! I was curious bout the nv4500s because I know they make adapters for it to the np205, biggest thing is ima have to pay attention to spline count, and I can deal with a lil fab work but I ain't trying to cut up the floor if you know wht I mean.

Also the NV4500 comes in two versions:

NV4500LD: Used in GM gas and diesel applications, and Dodge V8 gas applications.
NV4500HD: Used in Dodge light-duty trucks with the Cummins Turbo Diesel, and the V10 Magnum gas engine.

Lubricants recommended:
  • 75W-90 Castrol Syntorque Synthetic
  • Mopar Synthetic Manual Transmission Lubricant Mopar P/N 4874459 (Material Specification 9070)[2]
  • GM Goodwrench® Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid (GM Part No. U.S. 12346190 superseded by 19369226 , in Canada 10953477)[
So the NV4500 is a heavier duty transmission with a "granny gear" first gear.

1 2 3 4 5 R

5.61 3.04 1.67 1.00 0.73 5.61

The NV3500 is a lighter duty transmission and has no Granny-Gear:

1 2 3 4 5 R

4.02 2.32 1.40 1.00 0.73 3.55
