Default 2002 computer climate control problems

Ok, I need help.
So last fall, the gears on the actuator stripped for the different vents. It was stuck on the front vent. So I reached up under dash and changed it to the floor and defrost for the winter. I figured I would take it in this summer to get it fixed. Last week, took a trip, wife complained about her feet and legs freezing, even though I told her to wear pants, sock, and shoes, otherwise she would freeze. Guess what? She wore a skirt and sandles. So I reached up under dash and changed it. It would only go one way. Was only able to change it to defrost.
So took it into shop Friday. They said 2 hour fix. 3 days later, no fix. New actuator, new ambient sensor because they said code reader/programmer said it was reading bad and would not program. So they went to program it/re home it. It goes through all the vents just fine, then goes to defrost and stays. So they tried a climate control switch(another $230). Did the same thing. Got my truck back today, was not charged today(small town) but will be taking back in in a couple weeks when they have time since it took longer than it was supposed to. Anybody have this problem and/or know how to fix? They said there were no other codes and not sure why it isn't working.

Any and all help would be much appreciated.

An ambient temperature sensor wont throw a code so they are fibbing already, IMEO. I'd take it to an honest shop or tech.Get a blanket for your wife too. If for some reason you think the ATS is bad, they run about 4 to 10 bucks, but I doubt if that is your issue very much. Might have a bad relay.

You must insist that your wife wear cold weather gear too. Women love to be seen, which is why she dressed as she did. She is allowing other man and women to see her in a good light, That is normal female behavior these days. This is not 1940, and you cannot expect your wife to change due to the weather. It is your duty as her husband to see that she is protected, simple as that.

OK. After a couple of days, and leaving the switch on vent so the a/c will run even though it's blowing out the defrost, started blowing out of the vents. When I switched it back to defrost(to see if it was working) it stayed on the vents. I had to do some electrical work on the truck(added a USB plug in the dash) and it went through all the vents like it was homing itself, and stayed on defrost. Another couple days, and it was back on vent where I left it set. So I went to a pick and pull, found a replacement switch, plugged it in. It went through the cycle of homing itself, then stayed at defrost. Since this is the second control I have tried and its doing the same thing, I highly doubt it's the control. I left the truck running and hit all the relays to see if one was stuck(I'm not a pro, just a backyard mechanic). I'm not sure how to test relays, and don't think it's a relay since it will change after a couple of days.
