Chevy now thinks the passenger seat weighing device, built into the seat may be at fault. "Front Passenger Presence Module 2003 Silverado 1500 HD Pickup Truck".

I asked him to take it to another shop, where the owner seemed more familiar with it. I will ask him to get the "code".
If it really is the presence module, those are apparently no longer available. NAPA doesn't have one. There are lots of them on eBay, but I don't trust eBay.

Your link goes to what I thought they said it was, but now they're saying it's the Presence Module. At first, they thought it was in the wiring. I don't think the guy at Chevy understands any of this. The person at the shop I found told me they would test it out at no charge, and identify exactly what is wrong.

There's also a black wire in the video I posted up above, which is under the passenger seat. In the video, they said that this is a common problem, and to fix it, just re-attach the loose black wire. Yet another possible cause?

Thanks very much. I'm 150 miles away from my brother, or I would go with him to the shop......

Eventually I'll find out the code. In the meantime, I went to the link you posted, but couldn't find the airbag parts other than the ones you already provided a link for. Nothing about a "Front Passenger Presence Module", if indeed that is the correct name.

I'm hoping he will get the tests done within the next week or so.

Wonderful list, but maybe I just don't know where to look......

Thanks though. Hope to have more information soon.

@tech2 , I found out yesterday that the code is: B0092. Does this help narrow it down?

Looking it up I found "Code B0092 indicates the SRS module has detected a problem with one of the SRS sensor circuits. For example, in the case of General Motors vehicles, the code means the SRS module senses a problem with the passenger presence sensor (PPS)."

I think this is the part that he was told is no longer available.

Can you suggest any appropriate options, or should he just drive with it as-is, and ignore the warning light?

there is a tsb #02-09-41-002A related to this concern; a broken wire under the passenger seat.

if no broken wire.... If the vehicle is equipped with a passenger air bag disable switch, turn the switch off and clear the codes. Recheck for code. Turn the switch on and recheck for codes. Verify the indicator on the switch is working correctly.

5. If the code is gone with the switch in the on or off position, replace the switch.

Check for a pinched or chaffed wire under the passenger front seat. Also for this code, with a scan tool you can request flash codes from the passenger presence system. It will flash the passenger air bag light.
