2004 silverado ac issue
Got an issue with my ac. Works fine then every now and then it won’t cool. Relays and fuses are good. Ive pulled the fuse to reset the control unit. Worked one time. Yesterday it didn’t work. This morning turned on truck and checked fuses with my test light and had power and ac was working. Is my control unit going bad?
They tell you you'll be fined $10,000 if you let a peep of freon into the atmosphere - while selling expensive imports to help you do that.
They've built cars and home AC which 100% of the time release SEVERAL POUNDS AT A TIME into the atmosphere - almost always failing not by mechanical failure but: by holes and release failures.
How do you feel about your federal moguls and MFG? How do you feel about the threats against you on not releasing a peep?
And is there really science or lies behind it all? Is this a COVID scare or are they the ones who should get a good shake down?

In General:
First make sure your AC compressor is running. It should not cycle frequently (would usually mean low on freon).
If AC is on, then check your HOT DOOR VENT / "mixer vent". If you have AC controls problems or a bad actuator you'll get hot air in your AC and you will think the AC is not working when it is.
If you can't pin down either of those: feel the lines with your fingers no high tech needed, while the AC runs. The liquid line should be warm to touch (not ambient, not super hot after it exits the condenser). The evaporator line should be colder than a sweating beer bottle (not 62 more like 42). If you feel kinda no temperature on both: you have almost no freon in the system or some other bad problem.
----------------------------
You said it "works sometimes". That's probably good news means you definitely don't have a feon leak. It's more likely your AC controls. Un-probable chance of an engine compartment AC solenoid wiring issue.
Since we asked about wiring and controls: step 1: make sure your battery is good, that's always first. step 2: check your grounds make sure engine grounds are attached and clean. either of these can cause really strange things to occur so you have to do those first.
