Default 2006 Silverado trailering

How do I find out positively how much trailer I can tow? By looking up the vin I found out with a Weight distributing hitch it is 8,700 lbs, what if i don't have a weight distributing hitch, how do I know how much trailer weight I can tow?
The Certification/Tire label is unreadable, so I can't go by that.

I looked before I posted, the manual refers to the Certification/Tire label, which is unreadable, as I mentioned in my original post.
So this doesn't help much.

Look in the glove box - there should be another sticker listing GVWR details next to the RPO code sticker.

Either post a picture of the RPO sticker or list all the codes on it starting with “C” and “J” - those will will define the GVWR and brake system and those can be used to determine how much you can pull.

Are you using a bumper hitch or a frame mounted receiver? Is there something specific you’re wanting to tow?

Ok so I’m not finding the C3J code for some reason. CJ2 is the type of HVAC control panel and C49 is the rear window defogger, but I’m only finding GVW codes that are C4 or C5 so I don’t know if your sticker was a misprint or what.

I did find an online version for the 2006 owners manual that has detailed towing info so maybe this will help you - https://assets.gm.com/manuals/chevro...ado_owners.pdf - the index page is linked so you can skip to the section you want, they just don’t look like hyperlinks.

Thanks, so it is either 7,700 or 8,700 lbs, depending on the axle ratio, so a trailer with a dry weight of less than 3,000 lbs "shouldn't" be a problem.
