Default ABS Issue

Hey guys so i have a 2004 Silverado 1500 with 118k on it. The engine light was on throwing codes for misfired and the ABS light was on. Had a shop read the codes and the ABS was a :rough road sensor" and i was told it was most likely caused by the misfiring which was very bad. I took the heads off and fixed the issue with the misfiring, truck runs super smooth now (was a valve with a messed up seat from carbon build up) but the ABS light is still on. The light is not just on the pedal flutters to the floor when turning right and going fairly slow (between 5 and 15mph), i haven't had the codes checked to see if its still the rough road code or if its changed but i was hoping to troubleshoot it myself. Anyone have any idea what would cause the light to be on, the pedal flutter to the floor when turning right but throw a rough road code? The light comes on as soon as the truck is started but goes off sometimes when on the freeway.

"Rough road code"? Never heard of that one before. More than likely one of your ABS/wheel speed sensors is going bad/has collected dirt between it and the tone wheel/has a bad electrical connection.

The pedal flutter you describe is likely the ABS unit engaging which makes me think that at the very least, you need to remove the front ABS sensors and clean them up, as well as cleaning any build up of dirt, rust, etc. that is in the hole and/or on the tone wheel.

You really need to find out what code is actually being thrown. Get the number, come back here and we'll tell you what it really means.

Well, I'll be hogtied and whipped! I learned something new today - thank you!

Now, apart from my never running into that code before, there should be some DTCs that begin with C (C0000 - C0999 are for brakes and traction control) if you are having problems with the ABS system. I still think there is a buildup of crud between the ABS sensor and the tone wheel which is disrupting the otherwise fairly weak signal that is generated by the ABS sensors.

Good Luck and again thanks!
