Gas gauge doesn't work properly.
My gas gauge in my 1999 chevy silverado 1500 doesnt work. For the most part it stays on empty or quarter tank but them sometimes it will spike up to the appropriate amount that it should be at. For the last few months I have been just resetting the odometer and about every 250 miles I put in $45-$50 in it. I have had it looked at and they believe either the control cluster needs to be replaced, but I have about 300k miles on it and was wondering if replacing the cluster seems to be the issue.
I recently decided to fix my fuel gauge, since I've had the truck it won't go over 3/4. It's not likely the dash, the ones with cluster issues are usually the 03-06's I found out after I bought stepper motors that won't fit mine (but will my son's tahoe) you pretty much are stuck changing the fuel pump.
Delco is preferred.

Just don't forget to unplug the tail lights too!
