Default Help! Fuel Gauge still showing empty...

hi.. I have an 02 silverado 1500.. fuel gauge was intermittently reading empty w/ low fuel message for a week or so- it has a 1/2 tank.... it has nowa new fuel pump/sender unit, pressure sensor, connectors, etc. pump works good.. wires on connector A (orn/blk stripe signal) B (gray pump +12) C (purple +5) D (black grd.).. I'm getting +12V on pump, +5V on the purple wire, good ground... crazy- the fuel gauge is reading empty all the time... so to troubleshoot further i disconnected the 4 wire connector from sending unit which should drive the gauge to the full position but no go.. still empty. thinking it might be the gauge itself in cluster? does anyone have any ideas to throw at me that I can check? please and thank you.

per my fuel gauge reading empty .. quick update. I checked continuity with fuel level PPL wire and fuel level sensor grd reference ORN/BLK wire and both check out going back to ECU… good continuity on both .. any suggestions?

GM had a problem with the stepper motors for their gauges around the time your truck was built. and It could effect all the gauges. The stepper motors are not expensive and can be changed if you can solder. I did all 6 many years ago on a Trailblazer. I started to do only the bad one, but it was easy so changed all 6 while I had the cluster out. Since you say that everything else checks out good, this could be your problem.

any shop can test the cluster stepper motor. a good scan tool can do a gauge sweep. if the needle doesn't move during the cluster sweep...the problem is in the cluster.

I'll second. I had my cluster repaired locally because of the speedometer issue. Since i now pull a trailer (first time for me with an automatic) I had the shop add transmission temperature gauge, along with replacing the PRND LED's.
