The door locks go up and down widly, radio, temp gauge scrambles out, and the radio always resets to 1200. Sometimes the truck even loses power while driving. I took it back to a GMC dealership(Smith Stokes) and I was told it was the ground wiring harness that hits against the fuse box and frys the fuses. The grounding wire also is bad in the fuse boxes. I was told it will cost at first $875 and could get as high as $3000 depending on how much rewiring needs to be done. I called GMC and filed a claim because this is the third electrical problem I have had in two years. This is not regular wear and tear on the truck it is poor design by GM. They need to right this wrong or I will just trade it in and go back to driving Toyota pickup.

I am having the same problem with my 2008 silverado. I am taking it to the dealership Wed and I am hoping for the best but after reading all the post it seems like a crap shoot. It is a shame because up till now the only problem I have had out of this truck is the cruise control quit working ( no big deal) but this is intolerable!

It ended up being the negative battery cable assembly. Cost was $380.00, but they had such a good deal on a new 2012 that I let them keep my truck and I took one theirs home with me

I did find some solutions to my problem. I found that my alternator had a short, possibly could have been there since it was nearly new, but it was causing a serious draw on the battery which may have gotten worse over time. I also replaced the battery posts and turned the battery around to where it was more accessible. I cleaned the mega fuse, but it did not appear to have any corrosion or bad contact.

As for the lock cycling, I did not find a solution, but I would bet that it was a bad ground on the cab to frame somewhere. I also was having problems with the 4 wheel drive switch again. It usually would lock in, however, the problem was disengaging the 4 wheel drive.

I also had to break into the front diff to replace axle seals and lower cv boots. Saved myself major bucks there. 1 month later I begin to get a violent shutter in the driveline, which may have been coming from the torque converter or the clutches (AGAIN!!!). My dash also cracked close to the air bag at 4 years old.

Due to all of the problems, I am a bit sad to say that I miss GMC, as I was an owner of 2 and for a total of 7 years combined. I traded it in on a new hemi Ram, of which I believe may not have been the best solution financially, but I'm happy. In doing so, I realized that GM has many improvements. They need to make a more reliable truck, as they did previous to the new gen. The previous gen were not as nice, but in my opinion, much more reliable. The 5.3 needs to become gm's base line motor as it gets better fuel milage than the 4.8 and makes a lil better power, however, it makes only a slight bit better than 4.7 by dodge. Maybe the new LT1 (who knows why they would name it after the worst engine built by gm, as I am the owner of one of those as well) will be affordable and come in more than an ltz or denali.

Same thing happened to mine. Change the positive battery cable end for starters. $2.79. See my post last year with the pictures.

Default Electrical Issues

I have had the same issues as all of you have described. My 2009 Silverado door locks will cycle back and forth, lights turn on and off, stereo (aftermarket) turn on and off, and would sometimes not start. I took it to a Chevy dealer because I purchased an extended warranty and was hoping it would pay off. It did not, they had it for 6 hrs and charged me $100. Service writer said that it had to be the aftermarket stereo, typical dealer cop out. Not being satisfied, I then took the truck to a well known car stereo place. They kept my truck for a week and a half. Trying to get the issue to occur again and when it did, they went through all the relays and computer modules. While they were working on the vehicle, they heard a relay cycling. He grabbed the negative battery post and it was hot. He replaced both battery cable terminals, and cleaned all the ground points on the truck (under the hood and 1 under the drivers door). Truck is good as new for a month now no issues. Here's the kicker, only charged me $200. Thats service and not being a stealership. P.S. -why do these service writers keep posting to on here to take it to a dealership for diagnostic, EVERY PERSON HERE THAT HAS THIS ISSUE THAT TAKES IT TO A DEALERSHIP FOR THESE ISSUES RECEIVES NO HELP!!!! Just stop posting, it adds salt to our wounds! Hope this helps guys!!!!

Default Removing Gas From a Silverado

I'm sorry if I am not doing this right, but I really need to get some suggestions for our predicament.

We have a 2008 Silverado that was held in storage for a year and a half with a full tank of REAL Gas, not Ethanol. We were told the gas turns to shellac after 3 months, and that the gas needs to be removed.
Can you give suggestions on how to do this? My boyfriend is a mechanic but does not work on the newer models yet, and is very smart.
I have read there is a siphon proof, theft prevention, on it and it looks like someone may have already tried to steal the gas and failed.

The truck only has 15,000 miles on it and was really nice before the seizure. We don't want to damage it by running bad gas in it.

We had to replace the battery already. It fired right up after the battery was replaced. That is all it has been run, very briefly to check the gas level.

Any suggestions?
