2008 Silverado Stuck In 4 Hi. Any Ideas?
Ive had truck 2.5 years and put 106,000 miles on it on pipeline right of ways and have few complaints in that time. But recently after using 4 wheel drive to get up a pretty steep hill on the way back down i turned **** back from 4hi to 2hi but light stayed on 4hi and it stayed in 4 wheel drive. This has happened to me 2 times previously and both times after doing exactly what it says in manual I have been able to get out of 4wd fairly quick. This time took longer. How can I manually disengage 4wd or can I even do that? I sure dont like to drive down the highway 65 mph in 4 wheel drive.

check your tires...... if you haven't rotated them in a while, and the rear tires are more worn than the fronts...... then whats happening is the tires are spinning at different speeds, which causes the 4wd system to actually get its self in a bind... so when you try and switch it out of 4wd, the switch actually gets stuck.... the only way to totally fix the problem is to replace the tires... no matter which way they get rotated it will not fix the problem
