Pretty good chance that it is. Pop the rocker covers and see.

depends how long it's been going on for and how bad the damage is. Stuck lifters can damage camshafts and bores, and at that point it's an engine rebuild or replacement.

At minimum the lifters should be replaced with the updated ones, and possibly the VLOM too. There's plenty of videos about it on the web.

Whats ur opinion on 08 1500 5.3 248kmiles with intermittent ticking? Weather seems to plays no role. Could go a day or two without ticking, sometimes only ticks at idle other times will start ticking when running 60mph, sometimes if it’s ticking at start up u can shut it off and restart then it goes away. Sometimes its a relatively suttle typical 5.3 tick other times it’s obvious something is wrong but Its so sporadic and random. Any ideas?

ur thinking its a lifter or lifters? Surely one isnt stuck or collapsed since it comes and goes? Or is that still a possibility? Another thing I noticed is when I park uphill it doesnt seem to ever tick at start up but if i park downhill it occasionally will.. i didnt know if any of that would possibly be a sign of a weakening/failing oil pump or somethin with the pick up tube? U can also throw some sea foam in the crankcase and pretty much immediately stops the ticking but that usually only last for a few days at most
