440,000 kms and counting on my 2010 Cheyenne Edition
Bought this brand new in Saskatoon in June 2010. 4.8L Cheyenne Edition. She's been my oilfield truck and hunting truck all those years. Have her up to 440,000 kms. Rust has taken over and it has wear and tear all over her.
Original rear drum brakes finally went at 410,000 kms
Original leaf springs went in 2019
Original U-Joints went in late 2023 (opted to just replace the entire drive shaft myself)
On her 4th set of tires
On her 4th set of front brake pads
All oil changes done by me
Air conditioning works beautifully still
I replaced the original sparkplugs myself in 2022
Starts like a dream
Still has the original coils
Transmission gasket replaced 2021
The thing that really bother me now: if I'm sitting at stop sign or red light and then start to drive, I'll often feel a faint to moderate "clunk" right as I begin to move. I don't know what it is; likely many of you have wonderful ideas which I'd love to hear about. It's like something has separated in the undercarriage; it sounds like it's coming from the rear end. Could be the transmission, but I'm a bit of a brain dead geologist and really don't know much about vehicles. I do as much of the maintenance as I can on this; the simple stuff. But this "clunk" sounds like big heavy metal hitting big heavy metal over a gap of about 0.5 inches. After I hear (hopefully) some really good ideas from y'all, I'll take it in to a mechanic to get it sorted.
A few pics of her last epic trip; opted to take the road less traveled on my way back to Calgary from the rigs. Ended up west of Cadomin and going beyond the "no acces due to road washout" signs. That was the best choice me and that truck ever made. Had one hell of an adventure amongst the side by sides, quads and dirtbikes. Overlanding. My goddness that felt great. Way up in the alpines where no pickups should've been. Felt like stretching our legs and taking a risk on a nice summer day. Worked out well for us. (the truck still runs lol)
