5.3 AFM replacement

Default 5.3 AFM replacement

Can I replace my 5.3 Afm motor with non AFM 5.3 what needs to be done?

My understanding is you need to have the computer programmed to turn the AFM off. Then it will run on all 8 cylinders full time. I had this done to a 2009, it did hurt the mpg but it ran better. This was after the oil rings became stuck and it started using excessive oil.

Did you ever get an answer to this? I have the same question, but the one response you got wasn't addressing what you'd asked.

I just received a Diablo Predator 2 programmer that is supposed to shut off the AFM/DOD, so hopefully that will help for now. As you'd asked, I'd actually like to someday replace the engine with some other small block chevy, like the 350 ci crate engines you can find out there.
