Is there a cabin air filter on the 2011 Chevy Silverado?

Yes. Pull the glove compartment down for access.

It seems that some pickups back then had one and some did not. Seems to me it'd be easier to use one climate control box, then two, but only the Chevy engineers would know why, I suppose. I've seen large Class 8 heavy vehicles, (Semi-Trucks that have a cab air filter) but many do not.

It's a good idea for sure. It has to keep everything in the climate control box cleaner, as well as dust in the cabin air, for breathing. Kinda wish my 1998 Chevy K-1500 had one
but all in all I love my Chevy. Its been a very reliable pickup. My Malibu has one and it was very easy to change it out.

I’m not sure if they’re even considered standard equipment today - they’re certainly more popular than they used to be so more vehicles are being built with them, but I’ve seen 2015 models that don’t have them.

The HVAC housings are all built to accept a filter, but if it doesn’t have one from the factory, the cover for the filter slot has to be cut out to install it. This can be done at the dealership per customer request as part of the pre-sales inspection, at any shop, or DIY.

Interesting fact! Seems like a good idea, particularly if they can reduce any smoke or pollutants from the outside air.
