Crazy question but has any owner who has had this happen actually hooked up a gauge to see what the refrigerant pressure is? Is it low, high, normal?

If it's low which I suspect is the case in most of these instances, you have a leak. The most common location in the models exhibiting this problem is the compressor to condenser line. A crack develops at the bend and you'll typically see and/or feel oil dripping or spraying at the bottom of the bend.

The fix is to replace the bad compressor to condenser line, install a bracket to keep it from moving and cracking again, purge and recharge.

Low A/C Refrigerant Level (Compressor To Condenser Line)

2015 Cadillac Escalade Models
2014 - 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2015 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe
2014 – 2015 GMC Sierra 1500
2015 GMC Yukon Models

I own a 2014 Z71 Silverado with 56,000 miles and the A/C compressor blew up on Friday. the dealer wants over $1,400.00 to fix it. I have read through many other complaints on here for the same thing. Why should I have to pay $1,400 dollars for a 1-1/2 year old truck to fix it? c'mon GM admit there is a problem here!

That is exactly what the dealer told me on the phone. My point is that I shouldn't have to shell out $1,400.00 dollars to fix it, GM should.

Just got my truck back from the dealer. They said it had zero refrigerant left in the system. A small leak was found in the hose everyone else is having problems with. The dealer replaced the hose, added a bracket, and recharged it. Blows cold again.

I wish that's all I had to replace. In my case the compressor is shot.

$1,400 is ridiculous. Do they want to replace everything because of the fear of debris being in the system or something? They need to flush and check for debris. I bet there's is none as escaping gas will keep any from entering the system.

If it's just the compressor, a compressor will run out about $280 in this vehicle. They say you should replace the drier/receiver when you open the system. it's about $50. The drier/receiver typically has a filter to remove any debris as well. Refrigerant is under 30 ounces so about $40. $330 in parts + $40 refrigerant + $5 for oil if needed or $375 and $1,025 in labor?

How long was it in the shop? They said they did the same thing to my truck and it was in the shop for less than two hours which I find hard to believe. Probably just recharged the system. We'll see in a few months time

Default Problem with AC too

I just bought this 2014 1500 and the AC just stopped cooling the air. It still blows but it is hot. This truck only has 40,000 miles. Very disappointed so far. Is there a recall on the AC units in these?

No recall because its not a safety hazard. My problem was a line from the compressor to the condenser. It was supposedly replaced and a support bracket installed to keep it secure, The reason I say supposed is because the truck was in and out in less than two hours. I suspect they only recharged the system but time will tell. I was in warranty so no cost to me.
